Palmerston Wastewater Irrigation

Wastewater Upgrade and Irrigation System

Project Description
Recognizing that wastewater leaving the Palmerston community oxidation ponds could be better treated by irrigating it to land, Waitaki District Council engaged Fluent Solutions to design a cost effective and efficient scheme to meet the conditions stipulated in the Resource Consent requirements.

Services Provided
Fluent Solutions completed the entire project from beginning to end.  Works also included extensive liaison with the landowner and Council to ensure all parties were happy with the final scheme design and operation.

Specific Services Included:

  • Liaison with Council and the farmer
  • Evaluation of irrigation options
  • Screening of wastewater
  • Pumping station design
  • Network modelling
  • Irrigation design
  • Civil, mechanical, electrical and controls design
  • Drawings and specifications
  • Tender documentation

Challenges
To irrigate wastewater onto another party’s land requires a good understanding of the implications, the landowner’s concerns and farm management practices.  The design of the system constructed took careful consideration of these issues and has produced a scheme that works very well.
